VITAMIN D, GET YOUR DAILY DOSAGE IN LOTS OF FUN WAYS!

Vitamin D is found in many sources, such as eggs, fish, milk, and a big contributor of vitamin d is the sun. Spending as little as ten minutes in the sun on a daily basis is enough to prevent Vitamin D deficiency. The term "Vitamin D" refers ti a few different forms of Vitamin D. There are 2 forms of Vitamin D that are crucial to our well being as human beings, 1.ERGOCALCIFEROL (Vitamin D2)and 2. CHOLECALCIFEROL (Vitamin D3). Vitamin D2 is synthesized (to form or produce by chemical synthesis) by plants. Vitamin D3 is synthesized by humans in the skin when exposed to UVB rays from the sunlight. Foods may be fortified with Vitamin D both in the D2 and D3 forms.

The main function of Vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of Calcium and Phosphorus . Vitamin D, also helps with absorption of calcium, aiding in the formation and maintenance of strong and healthy bones. Vitamin D is either used alone or combined with calcium to increase Bone Mineral Density and to decrease the chances of bone fracture. Current research indicates that vitamin D, may also protect against Osteoporosis, hypertension, cancer and some Auto Immune diseases.

Rickets and Osteomalacia are 2 Vitamin D deficiency diseases. In children Vitamin d deficiency causes Rickets , which is a significant cause of skeletal deformities. In adults it can lead to Osteomalacia , which results in muscular weakness and weak bones. Others who may be at risk for Vitamin d deficiencies are the Geritaric population, Obese individuals , exclusively breast fed infants and those who have limited sunlight exposure. Individuals with fat malabsorption syndromes (cystic fibrosis ) or Inflammatory bowel Disease (Crohns Disease) are also at risk.

Aside from eating a diet rich in Vitamin D such as eating foods
such as fish, beef, liver, eggs, milk, cheese, and other foods fortified with Vitamin D, it is also important to have adequate sunlight exposure.
Sometimes it is also necessary to take Vitamin D orally, for children a daily dosage of $,000 IU is recommended along with a Vitamin d enriched diet and daily sunlight exposure. For adults the dosage of vitamin d is 2,500 IU along with a Vitamin d enriched diet along with sunlight exposure. A significant improvement should be seen in about 3-9 months.

With the summer approaching ,make sure to enjoy calcium enriched foods such as cheese and of course ice cream and when enjoying a summertime Bar B Q enjoy foods like chicken and lean beef or fish. remember while basking in the sunlight make sure to use a sunblock.

So enjoy your summertime and get your dose of Vitamin D while having your fun in the sun!
